“Self-seeking will slip away.”
“Self-seeking will slip away.” — Alcoholics Anonymous (1939) · Chapter 6 · Into ActionWhere it comes from
From the Promises in Chapter 6 of the 1939 first edition.
Today’s reflection“Slip away” — the gentlest verb in the Promises. Not conquered, not amputated: it leaves the way a fever does, while you’re busy recovering. You can’t fight self-seeking head-on; fighting yourself is still a self-centered activity, just with better PR. It slips away when crowded out — by service, by attention to someone else, by an honest day. And don’t audit this one too closely. Staring at your own selflessness is the old habit in a new costume.
